Dance
Dance has the ability to capture the imagination and evoke emotion in both the watcher and the dancer. We want our students to identify with those feelings. They will be able to experience a range of dance styles from various cultures from around the world- Bollywood, African, Hip Hop, The Haka and Parkour. Within the study of each of these style students then Learn, Perform and Create using a wide range of techniques such as choreography, improvisation and learning reportoire.
Schemes of work are scaffolded enabling students to acquire skills and knowledge through learning and performing dances, apply technique through creating their own dances and then evaluate their successes and weaknesses. This structure is then followed through to the BTEC Level 2 and 3 courses were they also study and replicate the work of professional practitioners throughout, using this to then inform their own choreography. Falmouth School students have gone on to dance schools, to study choreography at university, and to become dance teachers in their own right!
