GCSE Celebration Evening
Falmouth School’s class of 2017 were reunited this week for the GCSE Celebration Evening. There was certainly cause for celebration too, with the year groups superb GCSE results putting Falmouth School second in Cornwall in this year’s league table standings. Such was the impressive nature of the results, it also put Falmouth School in the top 4% for the whole of the south west region.
The new grading system for top marks in English and Maths at GCSE of 9, replaced A* this year, were tough to come by with just over 2000 students nationally achieving the clean sweep of triple 9’s. Three of those students were Falmouth School students Samuel Holland, Jenna Morgan and Lois Hills.
There was a real awards ceremony feel to the evening, as students and their families were greeted with refreshments and fellow student Theo Fleming playing them in on the piano, whilst memories of their school years showed on the big screen. As the ceremony got under way there was also a chance to look back at the best bits from GCSE results day and the prom, which also included an amusing first look at pictures from inside the photo booth!
All students received their GCSE certificate packs, along with those who gained the English Baccalaureate award. There were awards for those students who had excelled during their time at Falmouth School for English, maths, science, geography, history, languages, creative arts, sport and technology. The final awards of the evening were for outstanding achievement and outstanding progress across the five years.
The night was a massive success and Headteacher Mr Miners was delighted with how it went. “We were delighted to see so many students and their families attend the GCSE Celebration Evening this week. The students were part of an outstanding group of young people who achieved so well at the school. All of the staff at the school really enjoyed sharing these successes with the students on Wednesday night and wish all of our students, past and present, every success,” he said.
