Update - December 2018

December 13th 2018

Over the past week it has been fabulous to see and hear of our students involved in so many extra-curricular events. At the RNLI concert in Falmouth Methodist church playing with Pendennis Brass band, dancing as part of ‘The Hotel Experience’ community dance event, playing for so many local sports clubs, competing in the Rotary Young Chef competition, as well as helping out in charity shops in town. These extra-curricular activities develop so many different aspects of any student’s skill and personality, as well as benefitting the community as a whole. We are all proud of them and would encourage all of our students to participate in activities like these.

There have been a few changes in the responsibility posts of the leadership team which you will need to know so that you are able to contact the correct person when necessary. Mrs Iles is now Senior Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for the whole of Student Services (both Upper and Lower School) and SEND. Mr Wallis is Head of Upper School, whilst Mr Hayward is now Head of Lower School. Dr Magro will be working with the Teaching and Learning Team focussing on staff development and strategies in Falmouth School. Other leadership roles have not changed, Dr Fox is Head of our Post-16 College and Mr Hickman has a Teaching and Learning responsibility for Falmouth MAT.

In the Student Services area of school we have a new display celebrating those students who have excelled in the new ‘Ready to Learn’ grade on their reports. The top ten students in each year for their Ready to Learn score are proudly displayed, along with the ready to learn score needed to be in the top ten. They have performed really well in all of the areas of the ready to learn score; independence, behaviour, equipment, respect and attendance. Can I also remind parents of all Year 9 and 10 students that these students will need to be wearing trousers and skirts with logos from January 2019. I know that many of our students are already wearing these items.

We have started to see signs of Christmas appearing at school. On Tuesday, 11 December, we had our fabulous Christmas concert and today, Wednesday, 12 December, is the day of our Christmas lunch from the canteen. Whilst Year 11 prepare for mock examinations in English, maths and science our College students are looking forward to university. UCAS applications to universities are being carefully completed with the help of Dr Fox and Dr Godwin. We have been working in partnership with Truro School and Truro High School to provide mock interviews for those students who have applied to Oxford or Cambridge universities. These interviews can be really testing and so any practice is a great help!

Finally, I would like to wish everyone in our community a merry Christmas and happy new year!
