I was delighted to hear on Friday that the company working on the housing development on Union Corner obtained their planning permission. Just a couple of weeks ago we also received our planning permission for the new playing pitches to be built on the Budock site that the school now owns. This follows on from the planning permission for the 3G pitch and new pavilion that was granted over the Summer months. Therefore, all required permissions are now in place to allow us to move to the construction phase of the project. Over the coming Winter months this work will focus on getting the ground works done for the new pitches and the pavilion. The school and the community have been waiting for a long time to get to the actual part of the project that constructs the new facilities. This is hugely exciting for us all as the plans are now ready to become a reality. Could I also take this opportunity to, once again, thank the large number of local people who support this facility for Falmouth. There are significant numbers of local people who want to see Falmouth have the improved facilities for sport that the town deserves.
The school year is now already into the second half of the Autumn Term. We have the school production of Alice in Wonderland this week followed by the Year 11 mock exams. For those of you who have watched a school production you will know these are outstanding events that truly showcase the exceptional talents of our young people. If you have the opportunity to come and see the production this year, I am sure you will not be disappointed.
Year 11 students are accelerating towards their final exams and the forthcoming mocks are a very important ‘stepping-stone’ in that journey. We have excellent student attitudes towards work and our record breaking exam results for Year 11 over recent years prove this. To ensure that all students are as focused as they can be at this important time we have slightly ‘tweaked’ some procedures in the classroom for a very small number of our students to ensure that our high standards and aspirations for all students are maintained. The minor changes will not impact on the vast majority of students and any families affected will be contacted individually. This has come about as part of the continual reflection we do on our work to ensure that we continue to put students first at Falmouth and to maintain our position as one of Cornwall’s leading schools.
We have also been asked by a number of families to help them when it comes to the purchasing of uniform, particularly trousers and skirts, by having an approved retailer/outlet that sells school approved items. We are actively looking into our options on this presently and will be able to update you over the next couple of months. We will not be changing the uniform next year but we will be looking at purchasing options for you, so please look out for updates on uniform information in the weekly newsletter or through email communication that we send out.
