Update - 15 January 2021

January 15th 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

Last week we heard the news that exams had been cancelled, but the latest from the government suggests there may be some shorter assessments after all! All students in exams classes need to keep on working as this will help them with any future studies and in any assessment or interview that they may have. We know that teacher assessed grades will need to be based on evidence and this is the work that students submit to their teachers at this time. We will let you know as soon as we hear what has been finally decided by the Government and examination boards.

In addition to our emails and calls home, during this lockdown we are also asking children to attend a session with their tutors every day. This will be an audio check-in with their tutor via Microsoft Teams. The times of these sessions has been split as shown below. This is to allow siblings to access their tutor check-ins without clashes or competition for digital devices at home.

08:40 - 08.55 - Year 7
10:00 - 10.15 - Year 8
10:20 - 10.35 - Year 9
12:00 - 12.15 - Year 10
12:20 - 12.35 - Year 11

Students will have received an email from Mr Hayward explaining how to access these events. For students in Years 12 and Year 13 in Falmouth College, tutor check-ins will be once each week on Wednesday at 2:30pm.

For those parents concerned about free school meals, we have continued with the voucher scheme and we intend to continue this for as long as possible. We believe that these vouchers are easier for families as they allow parents and carers to choose to buy food that suits their own children, rather than be provided with a centrally set selection of produce.

We were disappointed and frustrated with the disruption that happened to the Year 11 parents’ evening this week. The online system from the SchoolCloud company failed to cope with the volume of usage nationally on their servers and we suffered interruption to our sessions. We have received a long apology from School Cloud’s leaders. We will schedule another parents’ evening for Year 11 parents on Thursday 21 January so that anyone who missed an appointment can speak to their teachers.

I hope that your child has managed to access their lessons via Show My Homework. Click here to see where teachers are posting the work that students need to complete, this link gives more detail . I would like to thank you for your support in home learning, and school staff for their strenuous efforts to make education at home as good as possible. There are undoubtedly challenges and difficulties but I am sure that we are all doing whatever we can to make the experience valuable for our children.

Best wishes
