Letters from the Headteacher

Welcome to 2019!

January 14th 2019

I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year as we welcome our students back after the Christmas break. This is always a busy term, in particular for Years 11, 12 and 13 getting ready for exams and Year 8 making option choices.

Year 11 Parents’ Evening is on 17 January and with their exam preparation looming I am sure that parents would like to meet staff to discuss how their children can make sure they do as well as possible. We have Year 8 options evening the following week, as well as our UCAS evening for Year 12, to which Year 11 parents are also invited. These involve significant decisions that students are making for their futures and we always aim to provide as much information and advice as we can for these events.

My assemblies this week have followed the theme of the week which has been ‘Respect’.  Encouraging respect is one of our key aims and follows what the Government describes as ‘British values’. Students have been told about how they can show respect to others and it is obvious in school that the vast majority demonstrate excellent behaviour. However, it was pointed out that insulting language certainly is not respectful. I also spoke about how respect for others’ opinions and beliefs was included in the Queen’s Christmas message and certainly was not shown towards the MP Anna Soubry by protestors this week as was seen by many of our students in news reports.

Finally, I would like to thank you for your support in ensuring our students are wearing correct uniform. Students’ uniform is excellent and there are only a handful of students who we have needed to speak to about the updates for this term.
