Letters from the Headteacher

Sports Development Planning Update

December 23rd 2013

The school was delighted to get approval this week from Cornwall Council to move to the next stage of development with the plans to create an outstanding sports hub for the town. The Council Cabinet meeting approved all aspects of the development which includes the release of land at Union Corner and the purchase of the old Budock Hospital site. Subject to the required permissions, the Union Corner site will be developed for residential use and the Budock site for improved sports pitches. These plans include a full size floodlit multi use 3G pitch and additional associated infrastructure developments such as car parking and changing facilities.

Brett Miners, Headteacher of Falmouth School reports that ‘The school is delighted to get the go ahead on this project from Cornwall Council. Whilst this is great news, there is still much to be done in ensuring the plans turn into reality. The community of Falmouth have been overwhelming in their support for this project and the school has been working on this for many months with the Council and the NHS to achieve this facility for Falmouth. Thanks, in particular, go to our MP, Sarah Newton. Sarah has been unrelenting in support for this project and has been instrumental in getting it to this stage. The current plans also include the possibility for potential joint work with one of the main sports clubs in the town. These discussions are ongoing and positive as they explore a number of options’.
