Letters from the Headteacher

Update - 28 May 2021

May 28th 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

The arrival of the world leaders for the G7 summit in St Ives has been in the news for some time now. This will put Cornwall on the world stage and will have an impact on Falmouth because the media centre will be based in Events Square. I am delighted that we have managed to secure visits to the media area for our Year 12 Economics, Politics and Geography students. This is a great opportunity for them to learn by experiencing this type of event in person! There will be some restrictions on our community whilst the event is taking place. I have been told that for Falmouth there are no major road closures, but car parking will be restricted, the Grove Place and Maritime car parks will be closed between 27 May and 19 June, and the Church Street car park will be closed from 10 June to 13 June. We have been warned that traffic will be extremely busy on routes from the Maritime Museum out of Falmouth. This will include routes past our school. Please bear this in mind if you drop your children off at school and if they walk, please remind them to be extra careful when crossing roads over the next few weeks.

In the holidays we still need to keep track of Covid-19 cases. We ask that you email school if your child develops symptoms of Covid-19 in the first two days of the school holiday so that we can identify close contacts. All students and staff have home test kits. Please ensure that your child completes a test on Sunday 6 June before we return to school. This is how we will prevent the spread of the virus in our community. If you would like to have test kits for the rest of your family they can be ordered free of charge online at https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests .

To prepare our Year 11 students for the transition into Year 12 we have invited all of our Year 11 students to post-16 sessions for their College courses here at Falmouth College. This will be in the week of 21-25 June, when each afternoon there will be a number of pre-Year 12 sessions covering all the courses for the next academic year. We would also encourage students who have not applied for Falmouth College to attend these sessions.  Many students change their mind about which courses they want to study after their results and in September so it is important they have a real flavour of what is to come.  More details will be sent to students’ school email addresses after half term. A reminder - we would be grateful to receive any unwanted and school uniform in good condition, particularly from Year 11 as they reach the end of their time in uniform.

I would also like to remind you that we will be begin to use the changing rooms again after the half term holiday and so all students should be attending school in full school uniform as listed on our school website from 7 June onward.

Finally, this half term has been one where we have welcomed students back into school and we have gradually been able to make their experience more like it was before the pandemic. I would like to thank all of our students and staff for their hard work this half term. Whatever the challenges have been we have worked together to overcome them!

Best wishes for a great holiday.

Alex George
