The Omnicron variant update
November 29th 2021
Dear Parents/Carers,
Following the announcement from the Prime Minister on Saturday 27 November, where he outlined a series of new temporary measures following the emergence of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in the UK, I have since received a communication for the Department for Education. These new measures Include:
Face coverings
All students, staff and visitors should wear face coverings in all indoor communal areas such as corridors, when moving around the school, in social spaces such as the Main Hall, in queues and when lining up outside their classrooms. This is for the safety of all.
All students should continue to wear face coverings on public and dedicated school transport, including car shares, unless they are exempt.
Testing
We will continue to distribute the Lateral Flow Testing kits to all our students and would ask that testing takes place at home twice weekly, on a Sunday and Wednesday. For any student who receives a positive result or experiences the symptoms of Covid-19, we would ask for parents/carers to contact us and ensure that their child does not come into school.
At the end of this term, we will be distributing Lateral Flow Testing kits so that your child can continue to test twice weekly during the Christmas break. You may also be aware that the DfE have asked for schools to test students on return to school in January 2022, where parental consent has been obtained. Further details will follow in my Christmas Letter.
Good hygiene
We should all continue to follow the basic rules of good hygiene. This will help to protect individuals and others from COVID-19. These are:
- Washing our hands regularly
- Covering our nose and mouth when we cough and sneeze.
Thank you as always for your support of these measures. We will continue to ensure that spaces are cleaned regularly and that all classrooms are well ventilated.
