Welcome back to the start of the Autumn Term 2016

September 12th 2016

Well done to all of our students last week, returning from their holidays. We were delighted to see how well all of the students have settled back into the routine of school. I would also like to thank all of the families for their support of the policies of the school. We had very few issues last week regarding uniform as almost every student arrived dressed appropriately for school. To help all families regarding uniform, please could I remind you that the ‘Uniform Matters’ booklet is available on the website under the ‘Information’ tab and then the ‘Uniform’ link.

We were delighted to get planning permission for the new 3G pitch development and Sports Pavilion just before the break. Currently we are awaiting some final permissions regarding the use of the new grass playing pitches on the old Budock Hospital site and then we can start construction of the new facilities. We are told that these decisions are imminent and we are certainly hoping to get things underway in the next few weeks. This is a hugely exciting development for the school and the community, that will make such a difference to Falmouth.

The other piece of really positive news for the school is how well our students have done in their exams this year. We have achieved record results at both GCSE and A Level at a time where the national averages have indicated pass rates in other parts of the country, at certain grades, have declined. Not at Falmouth. The school has proven itself, once again, to be one of the top performing schools in Cornwall. Last year, on the relevant key Government performance measure at that time (the percentage of Year 11 students who achieved A*-C grades in 5 or more good GCSEs, including English and Maths), the best performing Cornish school achieved 67%. Previous years to that the best schools in Cornwall achieved  a percentage below 70%. On this measure, our provisional results show that 73% of our students achieved this standard which will be one of the top results in Cornwall this year. Our post-16 College students are also record breakers with pass rates for A Levels and BTec qualifications being significantly above the national averages. These are outstanding achievements by the students at our school and they are results that are thoroughly well deserved. Hard working students in a school with aspiration for all and great support from teachers can achieve outstanding results and that is exactly what Falmouth School has done this year.

Our Open Evening this year is on the 4 October. We would be delighted to welcome you to the school to speak to our students and staff. If this date is not convenient, please contact the school as we always welcome visitors to have a tour around our school.
