Update - 21 July 2021

July 21st 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

As the last newsletter of the year I would like to say goodbye and good luck to the students and staff who are leaving us. We have students taking their exciting next steps into higher and further education and the world of work, and there are staff moving on to new challenges. We wish them all well in their new adventures and hope to see them again.

Over the holidays we have our Summer School for Year 6 students. This has proved hugely popular. Almost every student due to start in Year 7 has signed up to spend the week with us. We are looking forward to meeting them, to getting the new tutor groups together and showing them all around the school site.

We have ‘results’ days for Years 11,12 and 13, College enrolment for new Year 12 students, as well a wide range of contractors working to make further improvements to our site throughout the holiday.

You should have received an email from Dr Fox with details about the staggered start to the term in September. This is to give time for students to complete self-testing, as they did back in March. To summarise, Years 7, 11, 12 and 13 will return on Tuesday 6 September, and Years 8, 9 and 10 return on Wednesday 8 September. However, there is more detail as different tutor groups have specific arrival times through the day. You can see this on the website at http://www.falmouth.cornwall.sch.uk/61/news/article/332/coronavirus-information

Students will need to go straight to the Sports Hall, even if they are not going to self-test.   If you have already given consent to the testing then you don’t have to give consent again.   Contact enquiries@falmouthschool.net if you need to give consent.

Finally, I would like to thank you for all of your support over the past two academic years whilst I have been in post as interim headteacher, assisted by Dr Fox as interim deputy headteacher. The school has been through a challenging time but recent monitoring by Ofsted and our new trust, The Roseland MAT, has shown that we have made big strides in the right direction. In September we welcome our new Headteacher, Mrs DeSousa. Dr Fox will then return to his role as Assistant Headteacher and I will go back to my role as Deputy Headteacher.

I hope you all have a fantastic holiday, that you stay well, and that our Falmouth School students return refreshed and ready for another year at school, which we hope will be without major disruption.

Best wishes

Alex George

Interim Headteacher
